After recent incidents related to color.js and faker.js — it has become evident that the open source community is financially unstable. While the fortune500 companies are making big bucks off from open source code, the creators are often struggling to maintain the code with little to none monetary motivation to pursue open-source.

And in order to solve this — organizations should wither consider funding open source projects or purchase npm packages from privjs.com in order to ensure that their project is always maintained.

Why?

Open-source monetization has always been a debatable topic. Developers were frowned upon for trying to monetize code while organizations reaped big bucks from the same code. This always raised the question of sustainability in the field of open-source projects. Some projects however have received good funding from generous sponsors, yet the numbers doesn’t seem to be good enough for everyone. As finances play an important role in the community, buying/selling a commercial license to the javascript libraries seems to be the right direction for the future of open-source.

How privjs.com helps organizations?

  1. Peace of mind — organizations can ensure that the libraries used in their projects are regularly maintained by providing monetary support to the developers.
  2. No unexpected service disruptions — the projects purchased via privjs.com are often maintained and free from suden disruptions as in the case with color.js and faker.js
  3. Great technical support — While dealing with issues and feature requests, it is easier to get support via privjs.com than a regular open-source project. Some developers also create private communities specially for the customers purchasing the libraries via privjs.com

Who uses privjs anyways?

There are big brands already using privjs.com as a source for their premium libraries. Some of them include Greensock, Spotify, MakeMyTrip, DTIDigital, lenskart and lot more. So, it’s definitely a good time to jump on the bandwagon.
